Arrow Season 5 episode 2, “The New Recruits,” officially named Artemis, Wild Dog, Mr. Terrific and Ragman as part of Team Arrow. While the rest of the new squad are all street-level vigilantes, Ragman has some pretty cool powers. He wears ancient cloth that gives him the ability to teleport and materialize, and it looks like his suit also gives him increased strength and stamina as well. Ragman throws his victims around with octopus-like tentacles made of cloth.
Ragman saved Green Arrow’s life tonight and revealed he’s a survivor of Havenrock, the same city Felicity redirected the missile toward last season. In fact, Ragman said he’s the “last living soul” of Havenrock. Felicity has got to be feeling pretty guilty right about now. It will be interesting to see how Felicity and Ragman (also known as Rory Eagan) get along.
Like Oliver, Ragman is fighting for his father’s legacy. “I think it’s what my father would have wanted me to do. He saved my life on Genesis Day, wrapped me in these rags and said they were ancient.” Ragman and Green Arrow made a deal to honor the legacy of their fathers together. He’s the first mystical hero we’ve met on Arrow this season. In the comics, corrupted souls make up Ragman’s suit. Each soul gives him more power when he absorbs them into the cloth. It clear they’ve altered his origins a bit on the series.
When Felicity analyzed the sample from Ragman’s suit, Team Arrow realized he wasn’t a villain. The isotope that made the cloth radioactive came from one of the nukes Darhk launched on Genesis Day last season -- more specifically from a company called Atomic Defensive systems, which happens to be a subsidiary of AmerTek. While Ragman was seeking vengeance on AmerTek execs because they killed his entire family, Team Arrow was after Tobias Church, who was at the same time buying weapons from AmerTek. Ragman let an AmerTek executive getaway to save Oliver’s life from Tobias Church. That’s when their make the pact of friendship.
Even though Felicity saved millions of lives by redirecting the missile from Monument Point to the smaller Havenrock, we could tell by the expression on her face when she heard about Ragman’s origins over the radio that she hasn’t quite accepted the burden of being a hero.
How do you think Ragman will react when he finds out Felicity redirected the missile? Let us know in the comments below!
