How will Flashpoint affect the entire Arrowverse? That’s the biggest question for Arrow in particular heading into premiere season. We’ve heard a lot of casting news, but no hard answer as to how, or if, the impact of Barry Allen traveling back in time to save his mother will trickle over to Star City. In a recent Facebook Live, Stephen Amell says he got his hands on the script for Arrow Season 5 episode 1. When a fan asked if Flashpoint will be addressed, he responded with an intrigued face, “Don't know. Certainly could.”
Amell briefly spoke about The Flash Season 3’s first episode being titled, ‘Flashpoint.’ “That’s sick,” he said with a huge grin. Fans tried to pry out more information by asking if any Legends of Tomorrow characters will appear in the premiere. “No comment,” Amell quickly spurted out. Changing the subject, he added, “But we do get to see someone that we haven't seen in two full seasons.”
With Arrow supposedly getting back to its roots in Season 5, an old character making a return doesn't come as a surprise. Interestingly enough, Amell recently revealed the big bad this season is actually someone we’ve already been introduced to way back in Season 1, and he or she does not have superpowers. This person could be tied to Oliver’s mysterious past with the Bratva, as Season 5 is most likely the last season of Oliver’s flashbacks.
When asked to describe how he felt about the Season 5 premiere episode in one word, Amell chose “Legacy,” which strongly hints Oliver will be struggling emotionally after the loss of Laurel Lance, one of his most trusted allies since Season 1. It may be no coincidence that just yesterday showrunner Marc Guggenheim posted photo of a memorial statue for Black Canary on Twitter.
“The idea of Black Canary and what it means and what it embodies in Star City is something we are going to examine this year,” Amell as he walked on a treadmill in an undisclosed location.
Before the short 15-minute conversation was over, fans were able to sneak in another important question about Supergirl. Will Arrow meet Supergirl early on in the season? “There is a crossover event, but I don't know which people are going to be in play.”
From his response, it appears there will be a crossover between two of The CW’s four DC shows early on. Stephen Amell did say he had a big hunch there would be more crossover than ever this year. Which do two shows would you like to see crossover first? Let us know in the comments below!
Arrow Season 5 kicks off production July 5, and returns to The CW on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m.
