Assassin’s Creed apparently got a new movie trailer in Russia, and it reveals major plot and character details not explored previously. With the added insight, we’re able learn a bit more about Michael Fassbender’s character, Callum Lynch.

While a direct link to the footage isn’t available, a description of its contents was posted on the kinopoisk forums as transcribed by Access The Animus. Some of these revelations might need a SPOILER warning but will likely be explained in the film’s opening moments. It was all showcased during the 20th Century Fox panel at Kino Expo.

According to the viewer, the cut was “clearly a raw version of the trailer” but it featured a lot of new characters and backstory without the distraction of the first trailer’s Kanye West soundtrack. In the clip itself, it’s revealed that Lynch’s father killed his mother, which severely impacted the mental state of his character. This discomfort eventually propels Lynch to murder a man at a bar, and he is sentenced to death for the crime.

Given his troubled past and convict status, Fassbender’s star is deemed appropriate for Animus experimentation at Abstergo. While at first he believes the machine is messing with his head, Dr. Sophia Rikkin, played by Marion Cotillard, assures him that he can begin a new life by tapping into the memories of his ancestors. This Abstergo scene comprises about half of the trailer shown during the convention.

In addition to focusing on Michael Fassbender’s character, smaller cameos were also visible for Brendan Gleeson’s Joseph and Jeremy Irons’ Alan Rikkin.

Of course, because the trailer isn’t yet available, this recounting of the details should be taken with a grain of salt. That being said, nothing mentioned above differs too wildly from what’s been said about the Assassin's Creed movie in the past. Considering the film’s impending release, it also makes sense that a second trailer will probably made public in the near future. This Russian showcase could easily be a sneak peek.

Assassin's Creed hits theaters on Dec. 21. We also have articles with additional character photos and casting information.
