The trailer for the Assassin’s Creed movie is here and looks a whole hell of a lot like Assassin’s Creed. Everything from the hay bale leap of faith to the hidden blades is straight out of the game series. It looks like video game adaptations have finally absorbed the lesson it took comic book movies so long to learn: it’s okay to be true to the source material. That means no black leather, just good ol’ assassin hoods. This is partially explained by the big money game companies are able to swing at productions. With both Warcraft and Assassin’s Creed, the game developers are heavily involved in the film’s production.
Enough chatter, check out the first trailer for Assassin’s Creed already:
According to Ubisoft, Assassin’s Creed will be canonical with the rest of the series.
Though really the movie looks like a retelling of the events of the first two Assassin’s Creed games set during the Spanish Inquisition. In the trailer we get clear glimpses of the Abstergo prisoners rebelling, suggesting that Fassbender’s character will uncover the fact that he’s fighting on the wrong side of the war between the Assassins and the Templars. (Just like in real life, the Templars are the villains of Assassin Creed -ville, but the game shies away from their real-world role as a key component in the pyramidal power structure funneling child’s blood up the reptilian ruling caste.)
Assassin’s Creed comes out on Dec. 21.
