Overwatch’s D.Va is headed to Starcraft II as an announcer, completing the circle of meta-lore that begins with her e-sports child prodigy background and ending with her inclusion as an announcer with an in-game portrait.
In a post on the official Battle.Net blog, Blizzard states:
“In the coming weeks, D.Va will join the cast of six other announcers we released with Patch 3.7—and she’s the first announcer whose origins lie outside the realm of StarCraft II lore! Although D.Va is known most recently for her activities within the Overwatch organization, her journey began in the StarCraft esports scene, where she became the #1 ranked player in the world at the age of 16. Her StarCraft experience makes her uniquely qualified to support you in-game!”
D.Va’s official backstory makes her not just an e-sports mega-champion but a professional mech pilot and soldier. Via her official profile:
“As the omnic continued to adapt, it eventually disrupted MEKA’s drone-control networks, forcing the military to place pilots in the mechs. Scrambling to find suitable candidates, the government turned to the country’s professional gamers, who possessed the necessary reflexes and instincts to operate the mechs’ advanced weapons systems. Top stars were drafted, including reigning world champion Hana Song, also known as ‘D.Va.’ Famous for her elite skills, D.Va was a fierce competitor who played to win at all costs, and she had a well-earned reputation for showing no mercy to her opponents.”
The D.Va announcer will be available for general purchase at an undisclosed later date. However, her portrait is exclusive to BlizzCon 2016 attendees as well as Virtual Ticket holders. Everyone who attends Blizzcon 2016 or watches from home via the Virtual Ticket will unlock the D.Va announcer and portrait.

BlissCon 2016 takes place in Anaheim, CA from Nov. 4 to 5. Will you be attending or watching from home? Looking forward to D.Va’s announcer introduction? Feel free to discuss this Starcraft II and Overwatch crossover in our comments section below.
