Developer Squid Shock announced that Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus was going on Patreon to ask for support for the game following Humble Games' layoffs last week.

The game is Humble Games' last release before it underwent a "restructuring" that saw a lot of its workers laid off.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the developer said that it wasn't faulting the publisher, but noted that the development meant that they missed out on critical post-launch support.

On the other hand, Humble Games disputed the statements of its former workers that characterized the layoffs as a shutdown, instead calling them part of a "restructuring."

However, Squid Shock also described the latest efforts as a "shutting down," according to Eurogamer.

The Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus developer also revealed that within a few hours of the layoffs being revealed, it lost access to the "pipeline of critical systems without warning."

While the studio was still managing the game on Steam and was able to push out a patch, the same wasn't true for the console versions.

The team also said that at the time that it wrote the post on social media, it still did not have access to the pipeline. Squid Shock noted that it has been a hectic two weeks since the launch of Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus prior to Humble Games' layoffs.

The studio then confirmed that it was already taking necessary "steps" to restore access to its console versions. It added that it began as a "community endeavor" and that it was turning to its community again to secure the future of Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus, said MSN.

When Humble Games laid off many of its workers, some of the employees posted about the development on social media platforms. One of them said that the news was made at 9:00 a.m. in the morning by business development manager Nicola Kwan.

They wrote in a LinkedIn post that 36 employees were told that they were being laid off and that the company was shutting down. However, a spokesperson for the studio later said that this was simply part of Humble Games' restructuring efforts.

Other than Squid Shock and Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus, Humble Games' layoffs affected other developers and games that it was working with. These include Coral Island, a cozy life sim that was made by Starway Games, according to GameDeveloper.
