Clash Of Clans ’ December update is on the way, and a forum post from Supercell Community Manager Darian Vorlick has clued us in on what the incoming patch might offer. Keeping up with recent trends, its primary goal is to make the clan feature even better.
The post contains a short bulleted list of details about the update, so here’s what we know:
- It won’t be Town Hall 12.
- It won’t be Builder Base 8.
- It will be focused largely on the Main Village.
- It will focus on clans.
- It will be something new.
- Sneaks peeks are due in the next couple weeks.
One clarification made later in the source thread is that this upcoming update exists separately from planned Clashmas holiday events. Those are still coming as well, so, if you’re a fan of limited-time troops and are in the holiday spirit, that stuff will still be there for you.
Beyond those holiday teases, the Supercell source also touched on why the arrival of Town Hall 12 has been such a long time coming. While expanding the level cap is “something we’re looking at for the future,” the developer has found that there are still far too many Town Hall 9 and Town Hall 10 players that are reluctant to upgrade because they don’t want to deal with the grind associated with the highest tier. In that vein, Supercell is currently “looking at ways to incentivize more people to upgrade.”
When Town Hall 12 does arrive, the sentiment is that “we don’t want to just add more building levels.” Instead, the goal is to implement those levels in a way that makes sense for Clash Of Clans’ larger progression system. It sounds like a refresh of that magnitude won’t be released anytime soon, but at least it’s being thought about.
In the more immediate future, there’s still a lot more Supercell can do to make clans function better than they do today. The sectioned off chats for public users and clans makes it harder to join an existing group already in progress. Any concepts that allow more plays to experience the social features of the game will ultimately keep the community involved and playing. As hardcore fan activity has fallen off a bit over the last few months, it definitely wouldn’t hurt to find ways to bring new players in. Outside of features, we also expect tweaks to matchmaking and troop balance that will make the platform more pleasurable to use. We’ll post more details on those sneak peeks as soon as we have them.
Clash Of Clans is available now on Android and iOS.
