Counter-Strike 2 just sparked a controversy across the community following an update that added several news crates to the game's Dust 2 map.
Even those who have not played the game in quite a while know the potential game-changing effects of the latest update. The new crates are found just outside of the counter-terrorist spawn, near bombsite A.
Counter-Strike 2 Update
The new crates will now let players hop from CT to catwalk without much trouble whereas previously, you would need a teammate to boost you up. But the new crates let players get up by themselves without any assistance.
Prior to the latest update, both terrorist or counter-terrorist players would not be able to get up to catwalk by themselves. They would need either assistance from another player or circle around the bombsite, according to Rock Paper Shotgun.
Going around the bombsite is made even tougher as there is the possibility that a smoke grenade can cut off visibility. You also open yourself up to enemy players that can be lurking on catwalk, Long A, or the bombsite itself.
But now, Valve seems to be bringing the new crates for balance reasons as Dust 2 has historically been a terrorist-sided map. It only requires one smoke grenade to block the vision of CT players whereas previously they would have needed two.
Major Change to Dust 2
After Counter-Strike 2 players discovered the change, many began to debate of whether or not it would be good for the game.
Looking around various social media platforms, the general consensus seems to be that many people are happy about the addition of the crates, said Kotaku.
However, there are others who shared their concern that the change could be overpowered and provide skilled Counter-Strike 2 players faster and easier access to Short A as well as the middle of the map.
It is still too early to tell exactly what kind of an impact the new crates will have on the meta and playstyle that people will use in Dust 2. The only thing that players can agree on right now is that Valve made a very big change to the map with the latest update.
Valve also seems to be focusing this first year of Counter-Strike 2 on building out the game's foundation, prioritizing stability, and implementing minor tweaks.
However, many players have called out the company's lack of communication regarding its intentions for the game, leaving players in the dark, according to PCGamer.
