Elder Scrolls VI is not in development at Bethesda right now, according to Pete Hines. The vice president of marketing and public relations revealed the game’s lack of development on Twitter in an exchange with a fan.
Hines responded to an earlier interview of his saying that Elder Scrolls VI will get made, but isn’t in development at the time. A fan went on to pester Hines, saying he wasn’t speaking the truth. Hines responded multiple times that no, Elder Scrolls VI is not in development and nobody at Bethesda is working on it.
As for what Bethesda is working on, the company just wrapped up work on Fallout 4’s final DLC, and possibly teased more would be coming. Bethesda also just shipped Skyrim: Special Edition for PS4, Xbox One and PC last week, bringing mods to Skyrim on consoles for the first time.
Bethesda as a publisher is also getting ready to ship Dishonored 2 in early November, and is getting the hype train rolling for games like Prey and Quake Champions.
Given that Bethesda has been waiting to reveal games until they are close to release, it seems likely we will not be hearing about Elder Scrolls VI for quite some time. If the developer hasn’t started work on the project, we definitely will not be hearing anything in 2017 and possibly into 2018. Games take a long time to make, even longer when they are as big and complex as Bethesda’s games.
