At the end of The Flash Season 3 episode 10, Barry said Wally has to be the one to defeat Savitar and the promo for Season 3 episode 12 shows the two speedsters preparing for the battle. Unfortunately, Wally isn’t progressing as fast as he and Barry thought he would. A metahuman with ‘the touch of death’ hurts Iris and Wally isn’t fast enough to stop him. Take a look:

Barry asking Wally to defeat Savitar was a surprise a lot of fans should have seen coming, but didn’t. The scenario presents an interesting theory moving forward: that Savitar could actually be future Wally West, not future Barry Allen. But that still doesn’t solve the question of why any version of Wally or Barry would want to kill Iris. Another reason to set Wally up as the next Flash is to prepare for Barry’s death or crisis. It’s possible Barry gets stuck inside the speed force and Kid Flash is left to protect Central City and save him.

While Barry is hoping Wally defeating Savitar instead of himself will prevent the villain from killing Iris six months from now, there’s always unforeseen consequences when it comes to messing around with time. The possibilities here are endless, especially with Reverse-Flash and Black Flash in play on Legends. Do you think Barry and Wally will both make it out of this battle alive? Let us know in the comments below!

Check out the “Untouchable” synopsis below:

“THE TOUCH OF DEATH – Barry (Grant Gustin) and the team at S.T.A.R. Labs work together to bring down Clive Yorkin (guest star Matthew Kevin Anderson), a criminal meta-human who is methodically killing people by causing them to decompose at an accelerated rate. Joe (Jesse L. Martin) becomes his next target but it’s Iris (Candice Patton) who is caught in the crossfire. The Flash mentors Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale) and begins to elevate the newer speedster’s training to another level.”
