The Green Lantern Corps movie from Warner Bros. and DC Comics is moving forward, as two writers have been tabbed to draft a script for the upcoming superhero flick that starring two of the most famous recognizable Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan and John Stewart.
According to Deadline, David Goyer and Justin Rhodes will be tasked with writing the Green Lantern Corps script. Goyer will also act as a producer for the film, with DC Entertainment honchos Geoff Johns and Jon Berg executive producing.
The film is being described as “ Lethal Weapon in space,” and it’s based on a comic book origin story. The focus will be on two characters, Hal Jordan and John Stewart, with the latter getting his big screen debut.
The “origin” part of Green Lantern Corps will likely show Stewart becoming the new GL of Earth and Jordan showing him the ropes and how to work within the Corps.
Stewart is a former Marine sniper who becomes the new “backup” Green Lantern to Hal Jordan after Guy Gardner is injured in an accident. Jordan and Stewart would butt heads many a time in the comics with Jordan feeling Stewart had a problem with authority figures.
In the Justice League animated series, John Stewart was the representative of the Green Lantern Corps on the Justice League where he gained exposure to a new audience and gained a growing popularity as a character.
If the name David Goyer sounds familiar, the scribe has writing credits for The Dark Knight and 2016’s Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice .
There is no release date for Green Lantern Corps .
