Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is out, but that’s just one DC Comics adaptation in a long line stacked up until 2018. Suicide Squad is next up, set to release Aug 5, followed by Wonder Woman’s solo debut June 23rd, 2017. Finally, Justice League Part One will hit theaters Nov. 17, 2017, and we’re still waiting to hear who is going to play the beloved Green Lantern.
With just one Instagram post, a fan named Tyrese Gibson the leading contender to replace Ryan Reynolds in Justice League. Now, after months of speculation, the Fast and Furious actor revealed he had a serious meeting with Warner Bros and may have an actual shot at becoming the Green Lantern.
During an interview with Larry King, Gibson said, “I did meet with Warner Bros.” When asked if he has a shot, the actor responded, “I do.”
Gibson first hinted he was up for the role over a year ago when he reposted fanart of himself as Green Lantern. Gibson kept the rumor mill going with suggestive posts across social media, including pictures of WB studio lots. “ I was at home minding my own business and fans start creating these fan-made videos of me as Green Lantern and I looked into it,” Gibson told Entertainment Weekly.
Gibson has already admitted to meeting with Warner Bros. during an interview with Collider. “ I do believe that there needs to be more black superheroes out there, but that’s not even my motivation. I think I would be the best Green Lantern and based on my fans and supporters that spent around $6 billion in box office receipts, I feel like there’s a fanbase of fans out there waiting to see me put on this green suit and do my thing. So I would love to confirm something today but I can’t,” he said.
Warner Bros. may be looking for two versions of the Green Lantern: Hal Jordan and John Stewart. iDigitalTimes previously reported Chris Pine could star alongside Gibson. He teased another image of the two both as Green Lantern on Instagram.
