Even before she makes her big screen debut in Suicide Squad , Harley Quinn is receiving her own film at Warner Bros. according to The Hollywood Reporter .
In the THR report, Margot Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn and will have a producer credit when the movie comes out. However, what’s more surprising than Harley Quinn getting her own spinoff film is that the untitled movie will not be a Harley Quinn solo endeavor. Instead, the Harley Quinn movie will actually include several DC Comics female characters.
While details of who will be joining Harley Quinn in this spinoff movie are being closely guarded, THR says that Batgirl and the Birds of Prey have surfaced in discussions, though in what capacity has not been made clear.
If Warner Bros. and DC Comics want to really make a Harley Quinn ensemble film, they should base the movie on The Gotham City Sirens. The comic book series revolved around Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn as they became a ragtag team of sort of villains sort of antiheroes.
With the upcoming Ben Affleck-directed Batman movie already announced, Catwoman may be off the table, but there are plenty of other badass DC Comics females that the movie can use.
Harley’s Suicide Squad teammates, Katana and Enchantress could join up with Harley on an adventure post-Squad, but if DC/Warner Bros want to really bring eyes to the movie, bring in a new Catwoman and Poison Ivy, two of Batman’s most iconic female villains, and watch the money roll in.
