Metro Exodus is going to get a lot better with time. 4A Games announced back in November that Exodus will get a free next-gen patch. Now, the developer has revealed more information about an upcoming update planned for 2021.
Metro Exodus was one of the first games to use ray tracing. RT looked good in the game, however, it was extremely costly on an already hardware-taxing game. After a few years, the technology has improved and 4A Games decided to give a complete overhaul to their game’s engine and give players a full RT experience. This will benefit both next-gen consoles and PC users.
Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5
Metro Exodus will run on 4K at 60 FPS on both next-gen consoles with new RT technologies. For Xbox Series S, the game upgrade will only allow 1080p resolution but both Ray Traced Global Illumination and Ray Traced Emissive Lighting apply. To further improve the gaming experience, the loading time will be reduced, a 4K texture pack will be used, and the haptic feedback for the PS5 Dual Sense controller and controller latency for Xbox will be improved.
The next-gen upgrade will also bring several quality-of-life changes and an option for players to change FOV. All of these enhancements are available free for both Xbox and PlayStation users.
Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition
PC players are to get the best treatment too, including better visuals, performance, and superior ray tracing support.
“We’re taking advantage of our new Fully Ray Traced Lighting Pipeline and the latest GPU-capable hardware from NVIDIA and AMD to offer the ultimate Ray Traced experience,” told developers.
4A Games further promised that the PC Enhanced Edition is not just a simple patch but a separate product. Players will have the option to choose whether they want to play the Standard or the Enhanced version. This decision makes sense as the Enhanced Edition requires an RT-capable GPU, and not everyone has that.
The PC Enhanced Edition will also feature Advanced Ray Traced Reflections and NVIDIA DLSS 2.0. Just like console owners, the upgrade will be given for free to every existing owner.
Mac and Linux Version
Previously announced, Mac and Linux versions of the game are still coming around. The Mac version will launch in March via Mac App Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store, whereas, Linux version will release later this year via Steam.
