A new update is going live in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on January 17. There's a lot of new content and one of these that players are sure to love is the introduction of Multiplayer Ranked Play. With this, everyone gets the chance to play like the pros since the setting, maps, and even modes, are similar to those used in the Call of Duty League.
To join Ranked Play, players need to be at least Level 55. In Ranked Play, all unrestricted gameplay items are unlocked and available for use. This is available now matter how much players have previously unlocked. However, some of the weapons, Killstreaks, Equipment, and even gameplay content, are going to be restricted in Ranked Play and this is to match the competitive rules set in DLC. By the way, Friendly Fire is enabled in all Ranked Play matches.
Rank & Skill
How it works is that players start Rank 1 which represented their Ranked Career. To earn starts and then rank up, players need to win matches. It's important to remember that rank is permanent and continues across seasons.
There's also what's known as Skill Division. Players start their first Season in Bronze I. There's going to be 8 Skill Divisions and Tiers and to advance players need to earn Skill Rating or SR. SR is given to a player when they win and based on their personal performance as well as that of how the team did. In subsequent seasons, players are going to be dropped back three Tiers. For this new season, the highest Skill Division a player can start is Diamond I.
It's important to remember that SR penalties are going to be handed out due to being being inactive, disconnecting from matches, and even engaging in repeated friendly fire.
By the way, players can also look forward to what's known as Hot Streak. What happens is that they earn a flaming rank after winning three matches in a row. These flames expire when a player loses or after 72 hours.
