A new trailer for the upcoming roguelike "Hyper Light Breaker" showed off in-game footage of boss fights ahead of the game's early access release on Jan. 15, 2025.

The game is a prequel to "Hyper Light Drifter" and tasks players with exploring the Overgrowth either by themselves or with the help of other players in online multiplayer. Their main objective is to restore peace by defeating the Abyss King.

Developer Heart Machine shared the recent trailer to give fans a better look at what they can expect to see when the game launches in early access later this month. The first boss that fans got a look at is Dro, who was described as a "furious wolven warrior."

The second boss that was showcased was Exus, who Heart Machine called a "fierce gladiator." Prior to the early access release of "Hyper Light Breaker," the studio showcased the prequel to several players in a hands-on preview in 2023, according to IGN.

Heart Machine's upcoming game moves away from its original game's isometric pixel art and enters into the 3D field. More than just a visual shake-up, "Hyper Light Breaker" offers a lot more for players to do.

Some information we know about the upcoming release is that the maps will be procedurally generated and will take advantage of the studio's ability to make engaging combat and fascinating world-building.

Playable Characters and Bosses

The studio also showed more details regarding the upcoming roguelike's playable characters and their unique abilities in battle. The characters that were recently introduced were Vermillion, Lapis, and Goro, Game Rant said.

Vermillion was seen as an all-rounder character who could either get in close and engage with the enemy or keep his distance to stay safe. On the other hand, Lapis seems to be a heavy weapons specialist with an array of destructive options.

Lastly, Goro looks to be a character who fits into the assassin archetype and performs rapid strikes and swift movements to take out enemies. He was also seen summoning a massive cube that dropped on foes to damage them.

Many players consider the upcoming title somewhat similar to "Risk of Rain 2" but offer more precise action combat as well as a bigger focus on exploration. The developer promises that the game will have a lot of secrets for players to discover.

Heart Machine also revealed the price of "Hyper Light Breaker" as well as more information that fans should know about.

The upcoming roguelike is expected to cost $30 and will, from launch until Jan. 28, 2025, come with a free copy of "Hyper Light Drifter" from 2016, according to PCGamer.
