Microsoft just opened pre-orders for the new transparent, metallic sky blue Xbox controller at Amazon ahead of the product's release on Aug. 13, 2024.

The latest controller is the Sky Cipher Special Edition version which is a throwback to the late 1990s. The model shows off the look of its insides with a semi-transparent blue tint and will cost you $69.99.

Many people love translucent hardware and this design is one that has been used by many different companies over the years, including Dbrand, Apple, and Nintendo.

Microsoft's release of the new controller also comes as it is opting for a bigger push toward Xbox Cloud Gaming.

One thing worth noting about the new wireless controller is that it is a Bluetooth-enabled model that works not just with Xbox hardware but also with Windows PC, Mac, iOS, and Android. It will also be compatible with select smart TVs, according to Polygon.

The product will include a share button, a pairing button to quickly switch between devices, and a 3.5mm stereo headset jack. However, you should keep in mind that this particular controller uses AA batteries instead of a rechargeable one.

It will reportedly give players up to 40 hours of playtime before they have to replace the batteries. For those who are looking to get a rechargeable controller, there are many battery packs that can be bought separately, said GameSpot.

A Dose of Nostalgia

Being transparent, the new Xbox controller lets you see everything inside, including the rotating force feedback rumble motors, and gives a nostalgic feeling of the old times.

All accents of the product, including the rubberized grips, thumbsticks, and face button letters, are in a striking light blue color.

On the other hand, the d-pad and triggers feature a visually stunning metallic hue. The new controller comes as the latest in a long line of cool, low-print run items that Microsoft has released over the years.

Past products include the Starfield edition and the recent marbled Vapor line of peripherals. However, Sony has not let itself get outright outdone as it released its own limited DualSense controllers in the last few weeks, according to Forbes.

In particular, the Astro Bot controller was designed to celebrate the upcoming Astro Bot game that many fans are eager to try out when it finally launches. Another one is the Concord-themed controllers that are a nod to the studio's new hero shooter title.
