Niantic announced that it is now accepting nominations for cities to host Niantic Live Events. Niantic is known for its Ingress and Pokémon GO games. It is also currently developing its latest offering, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.
In a blog post, Niantic VP of Marketing and Live Events, Bill Kilday, said that at a Niantic live event, players get to meet other players, discover new places, and even walk a few kilometers.
The first Niantic Live Event was held back in 2013 for Ingress, which spanned at least nine weeks and involved 39 cities around the world. With the release of Pokémon GO, Niantic started the Pokémon GO Fest back in 2017.
As Niantic hopes to expand the number of events for 2019, Kilday said the company is willing to listen to their players and fans who have been requesting not only for more events, but one in their city.
Kilday added that for those who think their city has what it takes to host a Niantic Event in 2020, they can post a suggestion to Twitter or Instagram and use the hashtag #NianticLive2020.
In order to assist further those who want to nominate their respective cities, Niantic also released some helpful guide questions that include:
- Is there a big, beautiful park of 50-100+ acres?
- Is the park centrally located?
- Do they allow festivals in the park?
- Is it in a safe area?
- Do you get a strong cell phone signal at the park? Is there wireless connectivity?
- Are there dates available to hold an event?
- Is the city a place that is financially accessible?
- Is the park close to hotels and public transportation?
- Does the city, including the Police Department, support the idea of an event there?
- Are there other, competing events going on during the planned event dates?
- Is there enthusiasm of the player community in that city?
- What is the density of Points of Interest (ie. PokéStops, Gyms, and Portals)?
- Is the park in an architecturally or historically interesting area?
- Will we have the ability to load in and load out commercial vehicles and physical builds/decor?
- Can we close roads to car traffic?
- Can non-players still use the park while we host our event?
- Is there parking available?
- What is the typical weather for the park on the dates being considered?
A copy of the Nomination Form is available for download with deadline for nominations set at October 1 of this year.
