The OGA Dota Pit Minor 2019 was once again a treat to Dota 2 fans around the world as Ninjas in Pyjamas beat out EHOME in a Finals match that went the distance.
With the win, NiP gets to take home $125,000 and 120 DPC Points. However, the more important result is that NiP gets a slot in the upcoming MDL Disneyland Paris Major.
Despite being one of the tournament favorites, NiP had a rocky start, winning against Gambit Esports, but losing against Royal Never Give Up and BOOM ID. The result of the Group Stage meant NiP had to play Majestic Esports in the first round of the Playoffs.
It was at this point that NiP started showing why they were tournament favorites. In the first match of the Playoffs, NiP swept Majestic 2-0. To say that NiP dominated the match would be an understatement. In the first game, NiP beat Majestic with 28 team kills against six team deaths. The second game was the same as NiP took the lead and never looked back.
The second match saw NiP go against Forward Gaming. The story was the same as NiP dominated. The second game saw an impressive 25 team kills for NiP versus eight team deaths.
The next game was the semifinals. Here NiP faced off against Alliance. Alliance was undefeated in the Group Stage and swept Gambit 2-0 in the first round and BOOM ID 2-1 in the second round of the playoffs.
The first game of the semis had Alliance in the lead, before eventually succumbing to NiP. The second game was nowhere near as close, as NiP totally took over and did not give an inch to Alliance.
The other competitor in the Finals match was EHOME. EHOME had a rather dismal performance in the Group Stage, but once the Playoffs started, EHOME slowly started to get to form. With the early part of the lower bracket being a best-of one, there was a high chance of getting eliminated. However EHOME beat out opponents Gambit, Forward Gaming, and Majestic. The Lower Bracket Finals were against Alliance. EHOME started strong, winning the first game in under 20 minutes with only one team death. The second game was close, but it also went the way of EHOME.
The finals were a series of back-and-forth games, beginning with NiP winning the first game. The series then tied at 2-2 before going into the fifth and final game.
The series lasted more than an hour with NiP in the lead. However, the match swung to EHOME’s favor late into the game. NiP did not back down from a final push, securing the win and the tournament.
Despite finishing second, the tournament is good news for EHOME fans as the team looks to be going back to what they were before. EHOME takes home $65,000 and 100 DPC Points.
