It seems the specs for the Nintendo Switch have started to leak from reputable sources. While the figure may sound low, it looks like the retail version of the Nintendo Switch will have the same amount of RAM as the developer kits.
Nintendo Switch consoles will have 4GB of RAM. This news comes from Emily Rogers on Twitter. Rogers is a Nintendo insider who has already revealed several accurate leaks about the Switch. Previously, it was known that developers would be getting Switch consoles with 4GB of RAM, but it was expected the ones available to consumers would only be 2GB.
This may seem low, but Nintendo has previously made consoles with operating systems that don’t take up much RAM. If this continues with the Switch, the majority of that 4GB will likely go towards running games.
For a handheld, this is more than enough RAM. Unfortunately, the Switch is supposed to be a home gaming console that you can take on the go, not a mobile device that works with a TV. As a home console, 4GB of RAM does seem pretty low, especially when compared to the 8GB of RAM found in PS4 and Xbox One consoles.
As for other news on the Nintendo Switch, specs for the screen seem to have leaked. The screen is rumored to be 6.2 inches, will be touch-enabled, support multi-touch and have a 720p resolution.
That being said, all this information has not been officially confirmed. More information on the Switch will be coming from Nintendo in January, so the safest bet is to wait until we hear more from the Big N itself. Everything announced until then should be treated as a rumor, unless it comes from Nintendo.
So what do you think? Are you disappointed or excited to see 4GB of RAM coming to the Switch? Do you think this could hinder Nintendo’s latest system? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
