Good news for One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 fans! The game has managed to sell more than 2 million copies worldwide, making it the fastest title in the franchise to reach the milestone.
With this, the entire series now has sold more than 7 million copies globally since the first title was released in 2012. The franchise gives players the chance to relive some of the famous scenes in One Piece canon while offering a new and original storyline. The series is also known for the use of simple controls and being able to bring down a lot of enemies in a single stroke.
One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 was released in March 2020 on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
The Story
The game presents an original story by taking the unfinished Wano arc and modifying the plot. In this version, Cavendish and Bartolomeo help the Straw Hat crew escape from their cells. As the fight between Kaido and Big Mom intensifies, Blackbeard and his crew appear to bring even more trouble.
After fighting against Blackbeard, Big Mom, and Kaidos' crew, the players then go on a final battle versus Kaido, who's become a dragon. Luffy has to defeat Kaido to end the suffering at Wano. Since the story only has one ending, players need to win to watch the final cutscene.
For those wondering why there was a change in the story, at the time the game was released, the Wano arc was not yet finished.
Gameplay
In terms of gameplay, it was the same as it was in the previous titles of the series. However, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 has new multiplayer modes:
- Giant Boss Battle
- Total Bounty Battle
- Timed Defense Battle
- Territory Battle
The development team revealed in a post that for this game, they emphasized recreating a “realistic” One Piece battlefield experience. The team wanted to depict the finest details from buildings destroyed in action and the produced dust particles and fine sand.
The game has 52 playable characters in its roster, with 43 being base game characters and nine from DLC.
