Bandai Namco Entertainment has just confirmed during their Anime Expo 2019 panel that there will absolutely be a fourth entry to the manga-based action beat-em-up game One Piece: Pirate Warriors. Titled One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4, Bandai Namco and developer Omega Force has confirmed that it will release sometime in 2020.
Set in the One Piece universe that seems to have no end in sight, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is rumored to follow already established storylines and character arcs, and will focus all of its energy on what it does best: pure carnage and adrenaline. A reveal trailer was released coinciding with the announcement. Bandai Namco and Omega Force have yet to show any gameplay elements, but if Pirate Warriors 4 sticks to its guns and remains loyal to what made its previous entries successful, then it’s a no-brainer that fans of the manga and just general mindless fun would be getting copies once it releases.
For those landlubbers who aren’t familiar with the franchise, One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a young boy who eats the Gum-Gum fruit and arranges a crew of misfits to search for the titular “One Piece” treasure. Will they ever find it? No one knows and no one will probably know because the manga series has been running since 1997, birthing multiple media franchises, with no end in sight, just like the seas our heroes sail in.
The One Piece: Pirate Warriors series of games was initially launched in 2012 for the PlayStation 3. A couple of sequels followed, launching in 2013 and 2015 respectively. It has never looked back since. Hanging on to a mixture of its loyal fanbase and enjoyable and fun core mechanics, the One Piece: Pirate Warriors series continued to receive warm reception from its audience.
One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 will be available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC sometime in 2020.
In other news, Bandai Namco also announced during the Anime Expo 2019 the release of Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Complete Edition to come later this year, most likely to replace Digimon Survive, which was delayed to 2020.
