'Red Dead Redemption 2 Online': 5 Things We Want From Rockstar's Western MMO

Red Dead Redemption 2 comes out in 2017, and it’s already confirmed there will be a Red Dead Redemption Online accompanying it, just like GTA Online pairs with GTA 5. While we know just about nothing aside from the fact that the game exists, we’re already thinking up some great ideas for what Rockstar could do with their western MMO.

We’ve compiled a list of our five best ideas for Red Dead Redemption Online and presented them below. Have your own wishlist for RDR Online? Be sure to leave your own ideas in the comments section.

5. Activities to do with friends

Red Dead Redemption has all sorts of fun side-games tucked away with the rest of the epic story. Seeing a return of poker, five-finger fillet, horseshoes and the others would be great, but it would be even better if you can play these with friends and strangers alike.

Heck, even GTA Online still doesn’t have that long-awaited casino, so getting poker would be a huge plus for RDR Online.

4. Ability to own vehicles other than a horse

It seems a given that in a western game, you’d have a horse to ride around on. What would be more fun is if you can buy and own other vehicles like buggies and wagons. This way, when you and your friends are playing, whoever calls “shotgun” had better be appropriately armed.

Imagine if you could get your buggies or wagons customized. It would definitely be hilarious to watch a wagon with flames painted down the sides slowly roll through a dusty town.

3. Varied and involved missions

The best missions in GTA Online, from our perspective, are the ones that involve multiple stages and different roles for different players. While RDR Online is sure to feature basic “go to location, kill everyone, steal loot” missions, here’s to hoping there could be some more interesting ones like a player starting a brawl in a saloon while the other sneaks around back to break into the saloon’s safe or something.

2. Near-constant updates like GTA

One thing we definitely hope to see carry over from GTA Online is the monthly DLC updates. These releases keep breathing new life into GTA Online and make you want to log in again and again for the new items to buy and missions to tackle. While it might be difficult for RDR Online to release as many luxury items and high-end cars, added game modes and missions are always welcome.

1. Not a reskinned GTA Online

Despite many of our ideas coming from GTA Online, what we want most for RDR Online is for it to be a unique game, not a simple reskin. Even the idea of every player being a criminal wouldn’t be as interesting. Make RDR Online unique with different missions and mission types, and maybe even some sort of morality system, allowing us to play out our Western fantasies of a gang of good cowboys facing off against a band of ruthless bandits.

Whatever Red Dead Redemption Online ends up being, it’s sure to be a big success. If GTA Online has proven anything, it’s that fans are ready and willing to stick around (and drop massive amounts of cash) if you deliver updates in a timely manner and keep gameplay fun and interesting. We’re sure to know more as we move into the new year, so keep an eye on Rockstar and iDigitalTimes for all the latest Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Redemption Online news.
