Between The Last of Us Part 2 and Red Dead Redemption 2, it looks like 2017 is shaping up to be a great year for singleplayer games. Rockstar Games announced its project on the Red Dead sequel earlier this year, accompanied by a teaser that really doesn't give us a lot of information. For one, it's not certain whether Marston or any of the iconic characters from the first Redemption will return in the sequel. However, a GTA 5 tipster shared some new details:
The main takeaway is the second half: "Three playable characters of John's former gang, and John isn't one," the tipster begins. "The online mode will release later on, just like with GTA 5. If it came out day one, nobody would play the single player and you fucks would crash the servers."
It looks like the success of the GTA 5 recipe has convinced the team at Rockstar to follow suit. Just like GTA 5's Michael, Lincoln and Trevor, the tipster claims RDR2 will introduce three playable characters of its own. The John the tipster is referring to is presumably John Jr., seeing as how SPOILER ALERT Marston Sr. did not live to see the end of the game.
The second piece of the claim is even more of a no-brainer – the success of GTA Online was a turning point for the Grand Theft Auto franchise so we fully expect heavy multiplayer support for Red Dead Redemption 2.
Take-Two Boss Strauss Zelnik said Red Dead Redemption 2 will offer a story with "incredible emotional depth" as well as "great story elements and great gameplay elements. Red Dead Redemption 2 will be available for PS4 and Xbox One sometimes in fall 2017.
