Concept art accidentally leaked from the production of Star Trek Beyond offers a few hints about the plot of the upcoming third Star Trek movie for attentive Trek fans.
Star Trek Beyond ran a fundraising campaign during production, similar to Star Wars: The Force Awakens and its Force For Change drive . With fundraising complete, contributors are starting to get their rewards from the Star Trek Beyond campaign. But the campaign sent D.B. Wilson his perk more than five months early.
So what’s up with this ship and what does it have to do with the plot of Star Trek Beyond?
Trek Core theorizes that the derelict bridge from the Star Trek Beyond trailer belongs to the USS Franklin. You can see some of the damaged, old craft right at the beginning:
Since the Star Trek Beyond trailer has already revealed the destruction of the Enterprise, the USS Franklin is likely another crashed ship on the planet’s surface and will prove instrumental to the Enterprise crew’s escape from Krall (Idris Elba).
This would also suggest that Krall doesn’t just shoot down the Enterprise at the beginning of Star Trek Beyond opportunistically. Instead, it looks like Krall might have orchestrated takedowns of multiple Federation vessels in the sector.
The leak of the Star Trek Beyond concept art allows for some interesting inferences into a Star Trek movie plot that is still largely a mystery. All the puzzle pieces will finally fall into place on July 22, when Star Trek Beyond arrives in theaters.
