Luke and Darth Vader face off in 'Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back' Lucasfilm

Across the Star Wars Original Trilogy we witnessed Darth Vader strangle bureaucrats, hurl debris with his mind, block blaster bolts, and slice up the last surviving Jedi, but that’s all insignificant next to the power of his comic and cartoon incarnations. In Star Wars Rebels Darth Vader levitates an AT-ST . In the Marvel Star Wars comics he singlehandedly tackles an AT-AT. But soon we could see some of that incredible power brought to screen. If Making Star Wars is right about itsleaked intel, it looks like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will demonstrate some of Darth Vader’s most devastating powers in a battlefield scene to top everything that’s come before.

'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' Plot Spoilers Leak

According to Making Star Wars, “stunt suits have been built” for Darth Vader, suggesting Vader will be much more than a cameo in Rogue One. Making Star Wars cites storyboards that propose a number of different action maneuvers for Darth Vader. Some of these “pitches” include “decapitated rebels,” “people being dismembered by Vader throwing his sword” and “levitating bodies to make human shields.” The storyboard art is described as “more violent” than anything we’ve seen from Darth Vader in a Star Wars movie before.

If the leaked plot spoilers make it into Rogue One: A Star Wars Story they’re most likely to be part of a massive battle sequence, on what Making Star Wars describes as “a smokey battlefield.”

While the movies have shown Darth Vader dueling one-on-one, there is a precedent for Vader taking to the battlefield against entire armies in other Disney Star Wars stories.

2015 saw the release of Star Wars: Vader Down from Marvel Comics, a crossover event between the Star Wars and Star Wars: Darth Vader comic series, written by Jason Aaron and Kieron Gillen . Vader Down finds Darth Vader crashed and alone on an alien planet. Seizing the opportunity, the Rebel Alliance sends an entire army to capture or kill the Sith Lord. It doesn’t go well.

The Marvel Star Wars comics have also previously shown us Darth Vader levitating bodies as human shields, in the pages of Star Wars #1. When Chewbacca gets a clear shot at Vader, the Sith Lord throws his Stormtrooper honor guard into the path of the bowcaster shots.

Sure, it’s not exactly in keeping with the more realistic Dark Side powers in the Star Wars Original Trilogy, but it’s hard not to get excited for Darth Vader in his prime (Rogue One is set in the years before the original Star Wars).

If the leaks and plot spoilers are right, we’ll get to see Darth Vader take to the battlefield when Rogue One: A Star Wars Story arrives in theaters on Dec. 16.
