Bryan Fuller —creator of Pushing Daisies , Hannibal and the upcoming American Gods series—will be joining Alex Kurtzman ( Sleepy Hollow , Star Trek Into Darkness ) as co-creator of the new Star Trek series coming to the CBS streaming site no one uses or wants, CBS All Access.
Fuller has previous experience with the Star Trek series, writing for both Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager . However, it’s his recent work as showrunner for Hannibal , a stylish serial killer thriller that pushed the boundaries of network television storytelling, that is most likely to get genre fans excited for his involvement with the new Star Trek .

Fuller celebrated the news on Twitter with a beautiful and tragically dorky picture of himself in a Starfleet uniform:

“My very first experience of Star Trek is my oldest brother turning off all the lights in the house and flying his model of a D7 Class Klingon Battle Cruiser through the darkened halls,” said Fuller in the press release announcing his addition to the Star Trek crew. “Before seeing a frame of the television series, the Star Trek universe lit my imagination on fire. It is without exaggeration a dream come true to be crafting a brand-new iteration of Star Trek with fellow franchise alum Alex Kurtzman and boldly going where no Star Trek series has gone before.”
No release date has been set for the new Star Trek . Not even a title, concept or time period is yet known. But with Fuller in control this just became one of the most exciting TV series premieres of 2017.
