Supergirl Season 2 episode 2, ‘The Last Children of Krypton,’ features the arrival of Kara’s new boss: Snapper Carr. DC fans are familiar with Carr, a supporting JLA character. He gained powers in the limited series, ‘Invasion!’, which DC TV will replicate in the four-way crossover expected in late fall. The Dominators experimented with the metagene on Carr, giving him the power to teleport anywhere with the ‘Snap’ of his finger. He formed a group called The Blasters, which included the six survivors from The Dominators experiments.
Those are his comic origins, but Supergirl tends to have it’s own take on classic comic characters. For example, James Olsen will eventually become the Guardian, donning an all silver suit. While Carr did dip his hands in reporting, he wasn’t known to be a Pulitzer-winning journalist in the comics. Since CatCo CEO Cat Grant will be exploring other ventures this year, Carr will be Kara’s new boss. A scene from ‘The Last Children of Krypton’ reveals Carr won’t be the most approachable superior. He’s certainly not the mentor Kara has found in Cat.
“Snapper Carr doesn’t give a crap. He believes in the written word, in facts and ‘Are you good at your job or are you not? If you’re not good at your job, I don’t have time for you, ”Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg said according to ComicBook.com.
Cougar Town ’s Ian Gomez will bring Snapper Carr to life. As the new editor-in-chief of CatCo Magazine, Carr is a “sharp-witted” and “headstrong” newsman according to Entertainment Weekly. It’ll be his job to push CatCo reporters to give 110%. Previous reports reveal Lucas ‘Snapper’ Carr plans to “remake the news division by going old school.”
“He’s a man who tells people what he thinks of them, and his no-holds barred approach pushes Kara in unexpected ways,” EW reports.
Cat reveals in the clip that Carr will lead the investigative team. Even though she thinks his style is “shabby,” she says he’s the best journalist she’s ever known. It looks like Carr and Kara’s personalities would clash. She’s known to be quite fragile in the workplace. However, now that Superman is around, Kara has an all-star journalist mentor to turn to for advice.
