For those who probably have forgotten, GTA V developer Rockstar announced a spy game called Agent back at E3 2009. Since then, there’s been literally nothing else announced. Heck, event the website for the game hasn't been updated and still says it is "coming soon" for PS3. Most presumed the project to be dead, but publisher Take-Two has just renewed the trademark for the game as well as the logo.
Before we start getting too excited here, this seems likely that Take-Two is simply extending the trademark for another three and a half years so that nobody else can use it. This certainly doesn’t mean we’ll be seeing any major announcements any time soon.
Red Dead Redemption 2 also makes the idea of an Agent announcement almost laughable. The western game will be all Rockstar is working toward (along with more GTA Online updates) over the next year or two, meaning nobody will be working on Agent. I suppose it’s possible this project is still on some back burner somewhere, but this new filing feels more like a way to hold onto an IP instead of actually doing something with it.
As for any other news, it seems like we’ll just have to wait for Rockstar or Take-Two to make any announcements. Don’t hold your breath.
So what do you think? Would you still be interested in seeing Agent get released? Do you think this is just a ploy to hold onto trademarks? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
