A game released in early April falls under these genres and takes it a step further by championing a female protagonist.

'South of Midnight'
Released on April 9, 2025, "South of Midnight" is action-adventure fantasy game developed by Compulsion Games and published by Xbox Game Studios.
Rich in Gothic elements and folklore, the game is set in American Deep South and follows the story of a character named Hazel, who is called on to become a Weaver when disaster strikes her hometown.
As a Weaver, she is a magical mender of broken bonds and spirits and must confront and subdue dangerous creatures she encounters along the way.
'Very Positive' Reviews on Steam
As of press time, "South of Midnight" has more than 1,200 user reviews on Steam, which has categorized them as "Very Positive."
"10/10 would recommend this game," Steam user keat.kait said in a review. "It has amazing music, multiple fits and hairstyles, beautiful animation and graphics."
"The story line is so interesting, and the southern folklore was told in a way that kept you engaged even if you don't know about it," keat.kait added. "The voice acting was also amazing. Honestly, I can't say enough about this game."
"A deeply heartfelt game from start to finish," Steam user Pondering_Bears said in a separate review. "The voice acting for Hazel (Adriyan Rae) and Lacy (Cynthia K. McWilliams) carry not only the story but the experience itself."

Over at Google Reviews, "South of Midnight" is enjoying a 4.3-star rating, as of press time.
"'South of Midnight' is a game that starts out strong and keeps going right up until the end," Google user Dimma Dome said in a review. "It's beautifully rendered, stop motion style is both unique and fun. The music is fantastic, the storyline even better and the characters! Oh man."
"'South of Midnight' exceeded my expectations," Google user Luke Martin said in a separate review. "I didn't anticipate being drawn in, but I found myself immersed. The game's artistic direction is visually stunning."
