Clark Gregg wasn't lying when he said S.H.I.E.L.D. will never be the same after the Season 3 finale episode, and we have some questions about that six-month flashforward. Obviously, there are tons of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spoilers ahead!
Who Is Daisy talking to at the end of the episode?
The first hint came when Daisy, now going by Quake, said she’s keeping a promise to someone. It had to be to either Lincoln or Charles Hinton, both metahumans who sacrificed their life for her. Daisy hands the little girl a wooden carved bird and it all clicked. Before Charles Hint on died, he asked Daisy to promise she’d look after his daughter, Robin. “Your dad made this. It’s a Robin, like you,” Daisy tells the little girl.
Daisy also tells Charles’ wife, Polly, she’d like to introduce her to a ‘friend’ who loves animals and has a practice nearby. Daisy is likely talking about her father Cal. After the events of Season 2, all of Cal’s memories were erased. He opened a veterinary clinic in an unknown location, and last time we saw him, had no recollection of what happened last season.
Who is the new S.H.I.E.L.D. director?
In the flashforward, Coulson and Mack are on a stakeout to find Daisy. Coulson had a hunch Daisy was going to appear and sure enough, through a pair of binoculars, he witnesses her entire conversation with Polly Hinton. Unable to catch her, he tells Mack to, “Call the director.” Wait, what?
Coulson’s paternal instinct kicks in and he is probably too preoccupied with finding Daisy to run S.H.I.E.L.D. His personal bias toward protecting Daisy makes him unfit to remain the Director. My guess is that May takes the reins since she’s always been Coulson’s #1 confidante.
Daisy Is Now Officially Quake?
Daisy goes back to her old goth look in the six months since the Lincoln and Hive’s death. According to newspaper clippings, Daisy’s going full on vigilante. “Hero or Rogue,” The New York Bulletin 's headline reads. The media has renamed Daisy, Quake, and her motives are unclear. Her powers appear to be even stronger than before, and her vigilantism is causing some serious damage. She uses shockwaves to propel herself into the sky and escapes from Mack and Coulson.
What is Dr. Radcliffe working on?
Now best friends with Fitz, Dr. Radcliffe is working on Life Model Decoys (LMD’s). He shows off an AI he calls AIDA before revealing it’s her birthday. LMD’s are nothing new to S.H.I.E.L.D. and the MCU. Nick Fury has used them on numerous occasions. There have been a few teases that Season 4 will delve deeper into AI tech. Remember Eric Koenig from Nick Fury’s secret base, Providence, built after the Battle of New York? He could be a template for S.H.I.E.L.D.’s LMD program that AIDA was built from. Eric also has a twin brother, Billy, who guards another one of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s bases called The Playground.
