The Season 4 finale left off with huge cliffhangers, the largest being, where the hell is Agent Coulson and the team? Expecting to be chased by government officials, Fitz offers to take the blame for the whole AIDA thing. But before they can finish discussing and eating, a bald guy and his mysterious, never-before-seen team appear in the shadows. Next thing you know, we see a spaceship. Coulson rises and looks out his window into outer space and says, “Sightseeing is done for the day. Time to get to work.”
We will find out what happened to them sooner than expected. ABC announced Agents of SHIELD Season 5 will premiere right after the finale of Marvel’s Inhumans.
“It’s going to come on right after Inhumans ,” ABC Chief Channing Dungey said at the Television Critics Association’s press tour Sunday. “As soon as the eight episodes of Inhumans is done, then S.H.I.E.L.D. will begin.”
After first premiere in IMAX theaters September 1, Inhumans moves to ABC Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. EDT. This means SHIELD will likely get a premiere date before midseason break, some time in late November.
Not much is known about the plot, except for a few new cast members. Jeff Ward ( Manson’s Lost Girls ) will play an unnamed character in a recurring role. It’s also worth mentioning a now-deleted clip from star Chloe Bennet’s Instagram featured an actor painted entirely in blue (definitely a Kree) walking around on set. This highly suggested Coulson and SHIELD could be interacting with the Kree in Season 5. As you know, Coulson is part Kree himself. However, interactions with the Kree aren’t always pleasant. After all, they are responsible for creating Inhumans, experimenting on humans to create living weapons.
