ARK: Survival Evolved was updated on PS4 Thursday night, and yet another late-night fix was pushed on Friday. Following patch version 1.27, 1.28 has been released to address a rare bug that made demolishing structures impossible for some.
According to a tweet from Studio Wildcard’s community management team, “the PS4 1.28 update is a fix for the demolish crash that's been affecting some structures.” Shortly after update 1.27 went live, the issue was described as a PS4-exclusive “critical phsyx crash” and was already being addressed by the developers. Now the solution is here, and it weighs just under 2GB as long as update 1.27 is already installed.
Obviously a problem like this is a pretty big one for those who are currently experiencing it. Demolishing is a key part of base design from remodeling to moving structures entirely. If you can’t use those features, that massive part of the ARK experience is totally broken. Luckily, a resolution was dispatched as quickly as possible.
While the demolish glitch is the only client-side issue found in ARK 1.27, others have had trouble joining servers since the update went live as well. The so-called Snapshot-10 issue has been frustrating on PC, and it’s made its way to Sony’s console too. It was said that changes to the way data is saved in the new update made some older data incompatible with the latest system. This inconsistency makes it impossible to join dedicated servers.
To fix it, users must delete their entire ARK local profile by going to Settings > Storage > System Storage > Saved Data > ARK > Delete Local Profile.
It should be cautioned, however, that following through with the above process will reset all data stored in your local profile. This includes explorer notes, the mini-map and trophy progress. Trophies will have to be earned again to unlock any reward skins. In other words, it may be best to try another server unless you’re truly attached to a specific one.
These fairly minor bugs aside, ARK update 1.27 was a major one for those who’ve been playing the game on PS4. It brought the console build of the game very close to the latest PC iteration, and that means introducing dozens upon dozens of bug fixes, balance changes and quality of life enhancements to the early access experience. Models, sounds and mechanics have been totally refined to prepare for the game’s full retail release on Aug. 8.
The PS4 patch had been in the works for several weeks, but, due to unforeseen incompatibility issues with the new features, Studio Wildcard had to take its time to ensure that everything functioned properly on the market-leading system. It was originally estimated the patch would be ready by July 21, but it actually arrived almost a full week later.
ARK: Survival Evolved is currently in early access on PC, Xbox One, PS4, OS X and Linux. It fully releases Aug. 8 on those same platforms.
