It’s a given that Game of Thrones, Westworld , and The Walking Dead are the top three most torrented shows of 2016, worldwide. But number four and five on the list may come as a surprise to some. The Flash and Arrow follow closely behind TWD as two of the most downloaded shows on BitTorrent, according to TorrentFreak.
This matches last year's report, where Arrow and The Flash were in the top five as well. The data only further proves The CW really needs to find a way to deliver episodes to fans who don’t have cable television. The four-night DCTV crossover proved the audience is there, and The CW and Warner Bros. must find a way to capitalize on fans who are pirating as a last resort, and often times would much prefer to watch the episodes in high definition from a streaming service.
The only reason I have cable is because The CW no longer streams The Flash , Arrow , Legends, and Supergirl on Hulu next day. All episodes are available to watch on The CW app, however, fans still have to suffer through advertisements and if you’re using a desktop, only a rotating selection of episodes are available at once.
The good news is CW may have something in the works for cable cutters. Last month, Warner Bros. CEO and chairman Kevin Tsujihara propelled rumors about a DC standalone streaming service. He said the company is looking at direct-to-consumer distribution options, citing DC Entertainment's “rabid” fanbase as one of the reasons during an investors conference. If the service comes to fruition, it would be the perfect place for the continuation of Young Justice to call home.
