Upcoming seasons of Arrow, The Flash , Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow -- as well as Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Jane the Virgin, The Vampire Diaries, The 100, iZombie, The Originals Reign and three new series: Frequency, No Tomorrow and Riverdale -- will arrive on Netflix eight days after their season finales.
CW’s prior streaming deals with Netflix and Hulu from 2011 are set to expire later this year, and instead of renewing, the network will reportedly axe ties with Hulu in favor of the red streaming giant. Future CW series are also included in the deal, according to The Hollywood Reporter .
Variety reports CW’s contract with Hulu may come to an end in October, the same month fall premieres begin to air. Currently, the CW has a deal with Hulu that makes the five most current episodes available on a rolling basis about three hours afterthey air. With the deal coming to a close, fans will have to resort to CW’s website and traditional on-demand services to watch new episodes after they air. The CW has no deals with other streaming services, like Sling TV, which allow viewers to watch live without a cable subscription.
Before the deal was finalized, Variety reported Hulu was pushing to expand the limited access they have over CW’s most popular shows, asking for all the episodes in the current season to be available if their deal is renewed.
The latest CW seasons of shows like The Flash and Arrow will arrive on Netflix only a few weeks before the new season airs -- so expect The Flash Season 2, Arrow Season 4 and the first seasons of Supergirl and Legends to become available in full on Netflix by late September. It’s unclear if The CW plans to launch a paid in-house streaming on-demand service to make life easier for fans without a TV subscription, but it would certainly be in the network’s best interest.
