Arrow just finished filming its 97th episode (Season 5 episode 5) and Stephen Amell took to Twitter to share an interesting tidbit about what fans can expect. “Most times I get to play two versions of Oliver. This time? Three,” the Green Arrow actor tweeted Thursday afternoon.
It’s common for Amell to play two versions of his character in one episode-- often his present and past self in flashbacks. Amell’s recent statements suggest we may see either a future version of Oliver, or possibly a completely different version of Oliver in the Flashpoint timeline. On top of this never-before-seen version, we’ll see his past self from the flashbacks and his current identity as Mayor and Green Arrow, all in one episode.
The Flashpoint option is certainly questionable, since until now the Flashpoint arc was expected to end early in The Flash Season 3. However, this could be one example of the effects of Flashpoint rippling throughout the Arrowverse.
In the Flashpoint comic, Oliver was the head of Queen Industries, a high-tech military contracting company that steals gadgets from supervillains. He also leads a group of ex-military Green Arrows. When Oliver discovers his team has been killed, he goes after the culprit and learns it’s his daughter from a past relationship with Vixen. His daughter is killed by his reserve teams shortly after.
Which third version of Oliver do you think Stephen Amell is talking about? Let us know in the comments below!
Arrow returns to The CW on Oct. 5.
