If the Arrow Season 5 premiere is any indication, “Arrow is going to be fucking mean this year,” Stephen Amell revealed during a Facebook Live on Wednesday. “I wouldn't say evil, just a little meaner,” he clarified to an apprehensive fan.

Arrow should be angry after the events of Season 4: Black Canary’s death, the dramatic breakup with Felicity, Damien Darhk kidnapping his son, not to mention his whole team left him in the finale episode. Now he’s the Mayor of Star City with no team.

Amell spoke to fans for 15 minutes during a workout session in an undisclosed tropical location. After losing nearly 20 pounds of muscle, he has 21 days to buff up before he shoots a wild fight scene for the Season 5 premiere episode.

“Suffice to say that episode 501 of Arrow has the opportunity for us to have the most vicious, violent one-shot in the history of network television. I insisted that its gonna be me, no stunt double, and he [Director James Bamford] said fine, but you have to do it shirtless.”

Oliver has recruited a new team of aggressive vigilantes for Season 5. Evelyn Sharp will take a new identity as Artemis, a character most fans are acquainted with from the animated series Young Justice , where she pretends to be the Green Arrow’s niece. As you may remember, Evelyn posed as the Black Canary and sought vengeance on Damien Darhk, but Arrow was able to talk her down (similar to the way he tamed Roy, who will also return as The Arsenal) .

Ollie will take a trigger-happy ex-marine who calls himself, Wild Dog, under his wing. Star City’s new district attorney, Adrian Chase, will also be a vigilante by night if his comic origins are any indication.

Oh, and Ollie has a new Arrow suit too!

Arrow Season 5 kicks off production July 5, and returns to The CW on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m.
