The beloved video game series Asterix & Obelix XXL, which is based on the French comic book series Asterix will soon release its third installment. Titled Asterix & Obelix XXL 3: The Crystal Menhir, the 3D beat 'em up platformer will be launching on all platforms by November 21.
Developed by French studio Microids, Asterix & Obelix XXL 3: The Crystal Menhir follows our favorite Gauls in a whole new adventure. The story begins in the small village of Armorica, where peace reigns supreme. This tranquil town is threatened when the Druid Getafix receives a strange message that leads our Gaul warriors on a unique and dangerous adventure. Along the way, they will be helped through the numerous dangers they have yet to face by the mysterious Crystal Menhir.
Asterix & Obelix XXL 3: The Crystal Menhir boasts five environments, multiple levels and two playable characters which will immerse players in a variety of content such as battles, exploration, puzzles, and collecting. Similar to its predecessors, it uses a third-person view, sprinkled with platforming and beat 'em up elements. All of this is, of course, vastly improved over the two previous installments which were largely limited by hardware (Asterix & Obelix XXL and Asterix & Obelix XXL 2: Mission: Las Vegum were released in 2003 and 2004, respectively)
The news of Asterix & Obelix XXL 3: The Crystal Menhir’s release comes from a listing for the Collector’s Edition for the game, which was seen on Amazon Germany. It also revealed the first official gameplay screenshots of the game. The European Collector’s Edition of the game will come with a 15-centimeter figurine of Obelix and Dogmatix, and two smaller figurines of Asterix and Obelix.
No gameplay has been showcased yet, but fans of the franchise shouldn’t have to wait long for it. The game will be playable at Gamescom 2019, which will run from August 20 to 24 at the Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany. It’s part of publisher Microids’ lineup, with the rest of the titles detailed here. Asterix & Obelix XXL 3: The Crystal Menhir will launch for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Mac on November 21.
