inXile Entertainment and Krome Studios have officially released The Bard’s Tale III: Thief of Fate, completing the remastered The Bard’s Tale Trilogy. This version comes with updated graphics with quality-of-life gameplay features offered as an option.
Already available are Tales of the Unknown, Volume I: The Bard's Tale and The Bard's Tale II: The Destiny Knight. The complete set offers players a uniform playing experience on all the three titles without experiencing compatibility concerns or the need for emulation. Players can also create a party in the first game and play it all the way through the third game. Finally, there is a choice to play either as male or female.
The newly released The Bard's Tale Trilogy also comes with Legacy Mode. This mode allows players to toggle off all the fancy new features and options, and play the game as if they were playing it in the 1980s.
Aside from game updates, the developers made sure to update artwork in the spirit of the original games. Included are never-before-used character art by none other than series creator Michael Cranford along with new pieces as well.
Developing The Bard’s Tale Trilogy was considered as ambitious by both inXile and Krome, mainly because there was no original source code available. The original releases all had different looks and were on different platforms, which only added to the difficulty. The developers even found out that certain versions of the Bard's Tale games had features that didn't even do anything. The release of this trilogy means The Bard's Tale series has been preserved for future generations.
