Publisher Graffiti games and developer Mega Cat Studios just announced the launch of their indie adventure shooter Bite the Bullet for the Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch. This is in addition to their previously announced release for the PC, Mac, and Linux via Steam.
Bite the Bullet is a Metroidvania-like RPG shooter where players need to eat to power up their character, weapons, and abilities. By consuming the strangest of species, players can add new entries to DarwinCorp’s mysterious Compendiam. Eating numerous combinations will result in the creation of new upgrades. Three branching skills dictate the various upgrades you are open to explore, as long as you follow the diet plan.
Bite the Bullet's gameplay basically revolves around devouring anything and everything, from enemies, walls, and even bullets. There are classes you can choose from which are based on different diets, such as vegetarian Slaughter of the Soil, or the blood-soaked Gorivore. Be careful of what you put in your mouth as it will dictate your body type. Powerful weapons with humorous, food-related upgrades such as Spicy Critter Cannons and Organic Meat-seeking Missiles are also available for looting by defeating enemies. Special types of enemies also provide different upgrades and grant different skills, such as Napalm Vomit and Appetite for Destruction.
There are very few games out there that can hold the distinction of being an enormous glutton with very violent tendencies, so for that Bite the Bullet is a big plus. The art and sprites look very well done, too, although I’m not entirely sold on the fluidity of movement as of now.
A new trailer for its console launch has been released, showcasing its gameplay. Bite the Bullet boasts four different character classes, over 60 challenging Metroidvania-inspired levels that require deep exploration, gun crafting mechanics, and over 40 edible enemies. All of this is packaged in a pixel-styled aesthetic that is reminiscent of the classic run-and-gun sidescroller Metal Slug.
Bite the Bullet is projected to release for Switch, PC, and Xbox One by Q1 2020.
