Cyberpunk 2077 fans are in for yet another disappointment. The developer and publisher of the game, CD Projekt, revealed yesterday that the upcoming next-gen update has been delayed. The previously announced CP2077 update was initially supposed to release in late 2021, but now, it will release during the first quarter of 2022.
That’s not all. The next-gen update of the critically acclaimed title, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which was also supposed to release this year, has been delayed as well. The free update of W3 will release in the second quarter of 2022.
“Based on recommendations supplied by teams supervising the development of both games, we decided to postpone their releases until 2022,” CD Projekt Red announced.
Why This was Expected
This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone who was paying attention. The past year for CD Projekt has been quite troublesome, to say the least. A big part of the development team is busy fixing the current version of the game. This obviously has affected the development of not just the upcoming next-gen updates but also the paid expansion pack.
Correct Decision
It is a wise choice to delay the updates. Releasing a broken next-gen port for an already broken game won’t do any good for the goodwill of CD Projekt. I won’t lie. I was looking forward to the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The upcoming update is one of the reasons I am waiting to replay the game. Looks like I will be waiting half a year more.
Free Updates for All Major Platforms
Just to be clear, the next-gen updates of both Cyberpunk 2077 and Witcher 3 will be completely free and coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
It will be interesting to see how CD Projekt improves the visuals of CP2077. Say whatever you want about the game, but you can’t deny that the visuals were breathtaking.
