At long last, Dark Souls 3 is available around the globe, giving masochists from every corner of the globe an opportunity to test their skills (and patience) against some of the most difficult combat encounters we’ll see all year. At this point, most of us naturally assumed the game’s promotional cycle would begin to wind down. Bandai Namco has other plans, though.

The new Dark Souls 3 cover art is inspired by a recently released trailer, cut to look like a preview for an 80’s horror flick, and comes at the tail end of the game’s promotional cycle. Admittedly, the new cover art does look like the kind of faded covers we remember seeing at Blockbuster, and similar retail stores, during the era of VHS movie rentals. But there’s also something about the new cover art that reminds us of old NES box art, too.

Without a doubt, our favorite part of the new cover is undoubtedly the game’s listed run time. Two hours might be enough time for some speedrunners to finish Dark Souls 3 but most of the rest of us needed that long just to clear the first couple of bosses encountered in the game. And just in case you missed it the first time around, we’ve embedded the Dark Souls 3 VHS trailer below, giving you another opportunity to catch one of the most creative marketing clips we’ve seen for a video game in the last few years.
