Dark Souls 3 is finally available in stores around the globe and it’s already received one of our strongest endorsements of the year, but it sounds like software stability has been a major issue for some of the Dark Souls fans diving into the series’ third game.

Millions of gamers are slashing and stabbing their way through the kingdom of Lothric this week, following Tuesday’s debut of Dark Souls 3, but a game-breaking bug is making it difficult for some members of the community to make any progress in FromSoftware’s latest release. Thousands of players are experiencing a glitch after lighting the game’s first bonfire, making it impossible for those affected to make any significant progress in Dark Souls 3.

Bandai Namco has already acknowledge the bug, presumably meaning we can expect a fix in the game’s next patch, but not everyone wants to wait that long to play a game that’s already in their library. Fortunately, members of the Dark Souls 3 community have already uncovered a couple of temporary fixes that should at least get you past the first area. The first method involves using a helmet that complete obscures your character’s face and head. The easiest way to do this is to roll a Knight; however, you could get lucky and pull a helmet off one of the first enemies in the game.

Alternatively, if you’d rather not play a knight, some members of the community claim the problem is rooted in the game’s lighting system. While this fix isn’t working for everyone, some Dark Souls 3 players claim they were able to avoid the crashes by opening up the game’s advanced graphics settings and turning the Lighting setting down to Low.
