Destiny 2 Bungie

A leaked trophy list, early concept art and a new report from a trusted source of Destiny news seem to offer the first significant information on the first raid and expansion in development for Destiny 2. Neither has been confirmed by Bungie or Activision and either could change between now and the time they’re released to players. But the DLC information, in particular, seems like a safe bet; barring a catastrophically poor public reception of Destiny 2 .

If you ask most Destiny fans, Kotaku’s Jason Schreier is either responsible for every major video game delay of the last few years or the most reliable source of inside information on the current and upcoming state of Destiny. Maybe both. So it’s worth sitting up and taking notice when he publishes a report suggesting the first Destiny 2 DLC won’t suffer from the same problems as The Dark Below, the first expansion for Destiny 1. According to Schreier, the first D2 expansion will be called The Curse Of Osiris and revolves around the long-lost Warlock whose name appears in the title. It also shifts focus from the Cabal, who serve as primary antagonists in the Destiny 2 campaign, and put the spotlight back on the Vex.

A fan theory about the first Destiny 2 raid is also gaining a surprising amount of credibility during the final countdown to the game’s console debut. Thanks to a pre-launch leak, we know the trophy list for Destiny 2 includes a gold trophy, titled “Belly of the Beast”, awarded to anyone who beats the Leviathan raid. After a bit of digging, players uncovered a Grimoire card of the same name that some say is proof that Leviathan, which might be a giant space fish, is an ally of the Traveler. Since then, members of the Destiny sub-reddit partnered with Engrams Comic to create an infographic laying out a surprisingly-compelling argument that the first Destiny 2 raid will be set inside a giant space fish. We might even be fighting our way across the remains of a planet(s) inside its giant space stomach.

And in the feel-good portion of today’s Destiny 2 update, Bungie announced a new partnership with Direct Relief to help raise funds for those affected by Hurricane Harvey. To encourage community support, anyone who buys a Bungie Foundation pin from the Bungie Store will also receive a code to redeem for an emblem to be used in Destiny 2. And all profits from the pin sales go to Direct Relief. Bungie says it has 15,000 pins in stock as of Aug. 29 and the studio will commission another batch in mid-October to complete any unfilled orders. Bungie also urged fans to visit the Hurricane Harvey page on Direct Relief’s website to find out how else they can help. It’s an effort reminiscent of the studio’s 2015 call-to-action that raised over $1 million for those impacted by avalanches in Nepal.
