In a new trailer unveiled at EGX 2016, the team behind Yooka-Laylee has introduced us to some of the lovable characters we’ll get to know over the course of the game.

This game being done in the style of Banjo-Kazooie, of course, everyone speaks in lovable gibberish that will be translated with dialogue bubbles in the actual game.

So far we’ve got Trowzer, a snake with an ‘80s cell phone; Dr. Quack, a malevolent duck in a jar; Rextro, a holographic dinosaur; Dr. Puzz, who appears to be a lovely lady with tentacle arms; Blasto, a cannon; and Kartos, a gap-mouthed visage (and nothing else) on wheels. God bless the heir to Rare.

Also featuring: a big-ass cloud, a pig with a candy cane, a kid in armor riding a spring toy, a skeleton in a moving cauldron, a snowman with a broom, a furnace with eyes, and finally, a blocky blue warrior, our infamous Cameo King, Shovel Knight himself.

Now that’s a lot of characters, but what else do you expect from the heir to Rare?

Yooka-Laylee is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2017 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U and Steam. You can check out our gameplay preview experience at E3 2016, where we called Yooka-Laylee “ a fresh, vibrant beginning built on strong foundations” that “should easily appeal to both a new generation and a slew of nostalgia-seekers”. Yooka-Laylee made headlines earlier this year for being the fastest game to reach $1 million on Kickstarter.
