Epic Games revealed plans for the Fortnite World Cup this year, and up for grabs is a total competitive prize pool of $100 million. That's truly insane. Although there are many competitions throughout the year, the major event is the Fortnite World Cup finals, where players compete for a $30 million prize pool. The announcement has caught the attention of players around the world.
The best part: anyone can participate. To qualify, players can join the weekly Online Open qualifiers which begins on April 13 and ends on June 6. Each weekly tournament has a prize pool worth $1 million.
The top 50 Duos team and the top 100 Solo players from these tournaments then fight it out at the Fortnite World Cup Finals on July 26-28 in New York City. This is the whopping $30 million event. With a prize pool this big, the Fortnite World Cup Solo Champion receives a prize of $3 million with every player in the tournament guaranteed to receive at least $50,000.
In addition to the Battle Royale, Epic Games is hosting additional events during the Fortnite World Cup Finals. These include custom challenges using different formats and under different modes. Even after the World Cup, Epic will continue to sponsor weekly tournaments with a $1 million prize pool throughout the year.
To be eligible for the World Cup, or any other competition, players must be at least 13 years old with players aged between 13 to 17 years having permission from either a parent or a legal guardian. In addition, players must be in good standing, especially with respect to their Epic accounts. Players must not have broken any official Epic rules, and if they have, must have served the penalties in full.
Developed by Epic Games, Fortnite was released in 2017 and offers three different game modes. The first to be released was Fortnite: Save the World in July 2017. This is a cooperative shooter-survival mode which allows a total of four players to fight against zombies. The latest is Fortnite Creative, which was released in December 2018. In this mode, players are given access to an island wherein they construct buildings and even add and manipulate objects.
