Nintendo just revealed a brand new IP at their Treehouse stream at E3 2016. Ever Oasis is a 3DS game developed by Ichi, a former Final Fantasy developer who created the class system and a lot of the stuff we think about today when we think about FF , including chocobos. The game takes place in the desert and the main character, Tethu, creates an oasis and tries to establish a community in the middle of a barren wasteland. Tethu can be either male or female and has a water spirit as a partner.
Tethu is a seedling who can create shops for weary travelers to visit and purchase goods. Unlike other RPGs, you don’t purchase items yourself but instead enourage people in your oasis to spend the game’s currency, or “diadems” in shops called “bloom booths.” Different races inhabit your oasis, including “noots” which are squeaky owl / penguin hybrids. When these creatures spend “diadems” at your shops, you can collect them with your wind powers. It sounds weird because it is.
The game has a heavily Egyptian style, taking a lot from ancient Egypt and its culture. From the environments covered in cactuses, to the giant winged Sphinx bosses, everything walks like an Egyptian.
We also got an in-depth look at the combat of Ever Oasis. You have a team of three members that can traverse dungeons, and you can switch between members easily. Different members have different abilities: we saw a snake / dragon hybrid use his spear to push debris out of the way. Tethu can jump into a lotus flower, turn into a seed and then roll into new areas. In the dungeons, you collect items which can then be “synthesized” in your Oasis and turned into gear and weapons. Stronger enemies also appear at night.
