Fallout 4 PS4 mods are coming soon, but limitations won’t make them equal to their Xbox One counterparts at release. Use of outside assets may always be restricted on Sony’s platform, but that doesn’t mean Bethesda isn’t pushing for parity eventually.

Taking a look at the latest tweets from studio marketing VP Pete Hines, there’s still evidence of a clear divide between what hardware makers have allowed and what developers wish to provide. On PS4, players will be limited to smaller mod storage spaces and can only take advantage of assets found in the base game.

When asked about when that will change, Hines replied, “I have no idea. It wasn’t approved.” He added, “I don’t know if or when it will be.” That being said, Sony fans shouldn’t be too frustrated with the minds behind Fallout 4 to begin with. “I assure you we have pushed for [asset mods] and will make the case for all mods to be the same on all platforms,” Hines stressed.

What this essentially implies is that the solution Sony has offered for Fallout 4 mods on PS4 is currently the only one, and it may remain that way forever. However, the folks who promised to deliver the feature during E3 2015 are doing everything in their power to make it as complete as possible.

Discussion has ramped up about Fallout 4 mods since Skyrim Special Edition released on PS4 last week. Mods currently exist for that game in a limited state. External assets cannot be used, and modding space is allocated to just 1 GB as opposed to 5 GB on Xbox One. The size difference makes sense given that assets generally take up a lot more space, but it’s still fueled a bit of resentment regardless.

Bethesda has also repeatedly said that Fallout 4 will get mods once the Skyrim Special Edition launch has stabilized. As expected, eager gamers are already clamoring for details on the wasteland release date prospects. “When I get an update to share I will let everyone know,” Hines promised. Until then, mod arrival plans remain unclear.

Fallout 4 is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Mods only function across the latter two platforms.

Do you think Fallout 4 mods on PS4 will ever equal Xbox One? Is Sony being too restrictive? Tell us in the comments section!
