Why does Japan always get the coolest stuff? At Sony’s Tokyo Game Show conference, a Final Fantasy XV special edition PS4 was revealed. It’s called the “Lunar Edition” and has a giant moon on the side. That may not sound very exciting, but you underestimate how much fans love gimmicky game tie-ins. Throw a Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest character on a console and just watch them sell out in minutes.
The console will cost 39,980 yen in Japan (or around $390) and will be released the same time as Final Fantasy XV, Nov. 29. Sony just announced that there will be a Western release for the console and it will cost $449. According to Gematsu, it will include an "original design PlayStation 4 with a one-terabyte hard-drive, an original design DualShock 4, a copy of Final Fantasy XV with an exclusive SteelBook, the Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV movie on Blu-ray disc, and multiple pieces of downloadable content ('Royal Raiment Outfit,' 'Masamune Weapon,' and 'Leviathan Regalia Skin')."
During the TGS conference, Sony also unveiled a brand new trailer for FFXV . It’s in Japanese and features all of the main characters on the road. It’s a bit worrying that there’s no actual gameplay in the trailer, though it’s understandable. We are still a few months away from release and Square Enix knows they have to start building some major hype up as soon as possible.
I want to have faith that you’ll be a great game FFXV, but you make it really hard on yourself.
- Engaging main cast of characters
- Fun, fast-paced combat
- A massive, beautiful world to explore
- The Regalia!
- Continuous updates have addressed some shortcomings of the initial release
- Major aspects of the story feel rushed or absent, particularly toward the end of the game
- Stealth sequences feel out of place
