So much for “the speed force is with us.” A metapocalypse strikes Central City and Barry goes into The Flash Season 2 episode 22 feeling “Invincible,” but it doesn’t last long. In possibly the best episode of The Flash yet, Barry optimistically struggles to fight off an army of Earth-2 metahumans. He finally works up the courage to ask Iris out, but not before Zoom gets his hands on someone else very close to Team Flash: Henry Allen.
“Invincible” solidifies Vibe’s importance in next week’s Flash Season 2 finale. If Cisco’s vision is actually the future, Central City won’t be the only place that needs saving. Vibe's finally harnessed the ability to create sonic blasts, but Barry and Cisco may have a new sidekick in the making. It's a safe bet The Flash is going to end up with a speedster buddy (or at least a vigilante friend).
How is The Flash going to defeat Zoom, protect Central City, and save Earth-2 in the Season 2 finale? Here are the highlights from "Invincible":
Kid Flash
“I’m not going to stop him from being the hero he’s going to become.” -- Barry Allen
Wally’s transformation into Kid Flash was teased around every corner. It’s clear Wally is ready to become a speedster. When Black Canary’s doppleganger, Black Siren, nearly beats The Flash to death, Wally officially becomes a part-time vigilante. He swoops in and literally runs her over with his fancy whip. To appease Joe, Barry ‘tried’ to convince Wally to stay out of The Flash’s way, but the youngster is determined to help protect Central City. In the final moments of the episode (we’ll get to that later), Wally learns Barry’s true superhero identity. Considering his obsession with The Flash, he’s going to start looking up to Barry as more than an adopted brother.
“The Flash can’t be everywhere at once.” -- Wally West
The Jesse Quick teasing has also come to a close for the time being. Even though The Flash jolted her back to life with the speed force, the Kid Flash story arc is picking up steam. Harrison Wells tells his daughter, “You're not a metahuman,” and Caitlin’s tests on Jesse come back negative (for now).
Vibe
“Tell me I didn’t just Vibe the future.” -- Cisco
Pretty sure you did, Cisco. This doesn’t come as too much of a surprise. Cisco has the potential to become the most powerful metahuman we’ve seen on The Flash , even stronger than Barry. During a Flash family dinner at the West household, Cisco has a vision of Earth-2 splitting open. However, inter-dimensional clairvoyance isn’t the only new power Cisco put on display. Caitlin and Cisco disguise as their Earth-2 counterparts (Killer Frost and Reverb) to buy Team Flash some time before Black Siren collapses another building. When Black Siren quickly realizes they are faking it, Cisco knocks her out with a strong sonic blast.
Killer Frost
“I don’t think I’ll ever be whole again.” -- Caitlin Snow
Cisco tells Caitlin half-jokingly, “That was a pretty good Killer frost you did back there.” Could that be because Caitlin’s going to become Killer Frost? There may be a name change since Earth-1 Caitlin isn't an evil bitch, but it looks she's at least a little tempted to take on a new identity after being kidnapped by Zoom. She keeps having vivid flashbacks of Zoom’s darkness. The Flash Season 3 is also going to delve deeper into Caitlin’s past, so all this tease could all be foreshadowing for what’s to come.
Zoom Kills Henry Allen
“This is what’s going to make you just like me.” -- Zoom
Team Flash is able to put Zoom’s Earth-2 metahuman army to sleep by reconfiguring a sound amplifier to send high frequency radio waves through Central City. Zoom escapes to Earth-2 once he realizes he’s been defeated, but he doesn’t keep quiet for long. Zoom breaks Barry’s newfound speed force zen when he kills Henry Allen in the same exact spot The Reverse Flash killed his mother, Nora.
**Arrow spoilers, beware**
Black Siren
“Laurel Lance is dead, on this Earth anyway. Poor Black Canary, bye by birdie”-- Black Siren.
RIP Black Canary. Laurel Lance’s Earth-2 doppleganger, Black Siren, made this episode. As you probably know. Katie Cassidy is usually an innocent, girl next door type on Arrow , but not anymore. She’s sassy, she’s smart, and she’s deadly. If it weren't for Wally, The Flash would have gotten his ass handed to him by the once helpless Laurel Lance. Barry decided he’s not going to tell Team Arrow about this discovery, and Black Siren is locked up in STAR Labs custody.
